From 4 weeks to 8 weeks

Adilyn is actually 9 weeks old now so the title is a little misleading.

The first 4 weeks of Adilyn's life was really hard on all of us. Well maybe not on her, but it was really hard for Orion and I. Mostly me I think. There was a lot of crying on Adilyn and I's part. She cried because she was hungry or tired and I cried for pretty much the same reasons.

There was a lot of this.
With a little bit of this.
She got all the sleep she wanted, which only last 2 or 3 hours at a time. Life was tough then! Thankfully we have gotten into the swing of things.

Now there is more of this.
And some of this.
With some daddy daughter time as well.
My mom bought her that hat. The flower on it is bigger than her head! Well it looks like it at anyways. Hopefully when she is bigger the hat won't look so ridiculous on her.

Life is so much easier now that we have a schedule and she sleeps 7-8 hours at night. That means she usually only wakes up once a night to nurse. I am so excited about this because I am not tired all day long now. Orion is excited too because I don't snap get bothered so easily. I think Adilyn likes it too because I have more energy to play/talk to her when she is awake.

Couch

We finally bought a couch! We have been married for almost 2.5 years and still have a crappy couch.
See super ugly right? It is also not very wide so only two people could sit on it comfortably. We finally buckled down and spend the money to get a new couch. It is not the best couch in the entire world, but it is A LOT better than this one.
Orion can finally nap comfortably on the couch and I can sit on it as well! I am so excited. I wish we would have spent a little less on the couch, but then again I am just cheap. I could not even get the entire couch in the picture it is so big. Hopefully it won't take another 2.5 years before we get a brand new bed and frame.

Daddy Daughter Time

I just love to see Orion interact with Adilyn. It is just so cute to see how much he loves her. It is also nice because it means I get a little break to take a shower or have a snack. If I am really lucky it might mean a nap. Most of the time I just sit and watch them interact together. Orion has even started to try and get our little lady to fall asleep. She has not mastered the art of falling asleep on her own. I can't help but want to pick her up and comfort her when she is crying. Hopefully soon she will learn how to fall asleep on her own without much tears.
She falls asleep the fastest when she is rocked or bounced but that can get tiring. So Orion tries to get her to fall asleep laying on him or next to him. He has more patience then I do with this. I just want her to fall asleep so I can take a nap or do some laundry or just have some alone time. She likes her paci in the car or on walks. Even then she spits it out a lot. It helps her to fall asleep though. When I am putting her to sleep at home I try to not give her the paci because I don't want her to wake up ten minutes later when it falls out. Orion on the other hand gives it to her in hopes she will fall asleep no matter where we are.
She normally spits it out though. I guess I am glad that she is not addicted to her paci. But if it means she will fall asleep on her own with little to no tears or me bouncing her then its fine by me. So far her favorite way to fall asleep is being bounced/rocked in front of her bff the box fan. She just loves the sound of the fan and staring at it. Sometimes we wonder if she like it more than us.

Baby Stats

Our little lady is not so little anymore. Today she weighs in at 11 pounds! Holy smokes I can't believe she is that big already. She has gained a little shy of three pounds since birth. It makes me want to find that doctor who told me I was not feeding her enough and needed to give her formula a good smack and I say you were wrong. Honestly what doctor says you should give your baby formula because they are not gaining weight when the baby is only a couple days old? In my opinion a bad doctor.

ANYWAYS, back to Adilyn. She was 20.5 inches when she was born and she is now 22.5ish inches now. I say ish because she kept moving when we were measuring her. I never realized how quickly babies grew until I had one.

She can hold her head up pretty good. She loves to pull her head away from you when you are trying to get her to go to sleep and she wants to stay up. She can sit up pretty good as long as she is propped up on one side.
This is her hanging out in the glider that I have spent who knows how long rocking her in. Someday soon I am hoping to get her to fall asleep on her own. I love rocking her at night to put her to bed, but rocking her for every nap is getting old.
I think she is just the cutest little baby, but then again I am biased. Also she has mastered smiling. She does not smile all the time but when she does it is amazing. Her favorite way to express herself is through her eyebrows. She raises them and scrunches them together all the time. She takes after me and makes funny faces at her daddy when he tries to talk to her.

At night she can go about five hours before she wakes up to nurse. Too bad this happens right after I put her to bed at 8. If I go to bed when she does then I can get five hours of sleep straight, but some nights I don't want to go to bed that early. After her long stretch she usually wakes up 3 hours later to nurse then right back to bed for another 3 hours or so until it is time to wake up. I guess I can't complain too much I only have to wake up twice a night to feed her where some moms have told me they have to wake up 3 or more times a night. I still can't wait for the day when I can get 8 hours of sleep without having to wake up. I told Orion that is what I want for my birthday. Eight hours of uninterrupted sleep. He laughed at my request, but it really all I want.

Almost 6 weeks

On Monday it will be 6 weeks since I had a baby. I still can't believe that I was ever pregnant and that I had a baby. It is just weird to think about. We are all still alive, although some days I feel like death warmed up because I am so tired. Having a little baby that wakes up twice a night to feed and then having a hard time falling asleep is killer. But good news I still love my husband and baby. Orion has no problem sleeping lucky him.
This is what I found not long after I put Adilyn down one day. Apparently the Boppy has many functions.

Adilyn sometimes has a hard time falling asleep. This was a day of her refusing to sleep and Orion coming up with the idea of laying her down next to him on the couch. She wiggled her arms out and fell asleep promptly. That girl sometimes drives me a little crazy. Good thing she is so cute. It was a super hot day this day so she hug out in just her diaper. She won't sleep unless she is swaddle. I swear this baby is so stubborn! Needless to say I have been praying a lot more since she was born for patience and sleep.
